Plural Quiz
———————————————————————–

What we have this issue is so practical and fun, I don’t know what to say, except, Hurray!. English learners and fans can test themselves with these two little quizes. Teachers can write them on the board and use them in
class (as long as the class is intermediate or above).

What are the plurals to the following words?

1. mouse
2. ox
3. deer
4. leaf
5. roof
6. thesis
7. mosquito
8. it
9. B (as in the letter)
10. Jerry (as in the name).
12. chateau
13. myself
14. species
15. mouse (the computer kind)

For an interesting article on the mice/mouses plural debate and a cool site (yourdictionary.com) go here.

Word Couples
———————————————————————–

There’s nothing wrong with a guy named Romeo falling in love with a girl named Jane. But Romeo and Jane just doesn’t sound right. It is, of course, Tarzan and Jane. Oh, or Romeo and Juliet.

Words, like certain couples, sometimes go together. Let’s look at some “word couples” in English and their meanings (if they aren’t clear).

You (or your students) supply the second partner in the CAPITALIZED expression. Answers are near the bottom of the page.

1. “Take it NICE AND _________.” (Meaning, not to fast, be careful).

2. “Those two guys are as different as NIGHT AND _______.”

3. “I’m SICK AND ___________of it!”

4. “In Vladivostok we sometimes have water and sometimes don’t. It’s HIT AND __________.”

5. “You can’t compare those things. It’s APPLES AND _________.

6. “I can’t sleep. I just TOSS AND __________ all night.”

7. Oh, well. LIVE AND ____________!” (Said when after you’ve made some mistake).
