“Wishes From Elementary School Kids”
————————————————————–
Kids from the ages 5 - 12 go to ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. In some schools, at the end of the year, they publish a YEARBOOK. It’s a book with pictures of all the students and teachers, and a few words about each person.
Kevin’s sister’s kids go to Glenmoor Elementary School in Fremont, California. For their 2003 yearbook, each kid completed the sentence “If I could do anything, I would…”
Below you will find TRUE examples of what these kids said.
<><>“IF I COULD DO ANYTHING, I WOULD…”
1. John (age 5): “… spell words.”
2. Samantha (age 6): “…go to the French Fry store to get
FrenchFries.

4. Larry (age 6): “listen more to the teacher.”
5. Amy (age 7): “… gather all the flowers in the world and make the biggest bouquet ever.”

Activity Ideas
——————————————————————-
These kids’ wishes should generate discussion. Print them or read them to your students.
Of course, you can ask your students–whatever their age–what they would do if they could do anything.

Word Origins: What’s a Limey?
————————————————————–
A Limey is a Brit. Someone from the U.K. It is not particularly rude to call someone from England a Limey, but neither is it polite. You should be
familiar with that person to do so.
The word was first a nickname for British sailors. Long ago, sailors were served lime juice during voyages to prevent them from catching scurvy.
