“Weather Expressions” - vocabulary and exercise
———————————————————————–

Hi! Kevin is in Virginia, taking tests for his Ms. Ed. degree in TESOL, but he’s sending this issue from his hotel.

Thanks go to Suzanne Koons, head of the ESL Department at West Valley College in California. Suzanne originally gathered the expressions.

Match the Paraphrase

Below you will find 7 sentences that use weather expressions–but no definitions.

1. She’s under the weather.
2. They are keeping her in the dark.
3. She got wind of the rumors.
4. The test was a breeze.
5. She’s still up in the air about the trip.
6. She caught a second wind.
7. Her head is in the clouds.

Next you will find paraphrases of the above sentences. Match the two sentences and you’ll discover the meaning of the idiom or expression.

A. She finally found out what people were saying.
B. She hasn’t yet decided about her vacation.
C. The test was really easy.
D. She’s often daydreaming and not thinking about reality.
